Yesterday was a big day for Lee Soo Man, record executive for the top entertainment company in Korea, SM Entertainment. At the 2019 Capital Congress Event, Lee finally made the announcement of the group Super M. Containing 7 members, the group is formed by their current boygroup sensations.
Who is Super M?
The group is set to debut in October, focusing heavily on the American market. It was hinted at last night that the group will embark on an American tour and promote on popular television programs, despite the fact that no dates were released to the public. The group is composed of members with singing, dancing and rapping abilities.
Although SM has many talented idols they could choose from, only these 7 made the cut. Let's see what they are bringing to the table.
Taemin of Shinee
Taemin, the youngest member of Shinee has been holding himself down in the past few months. In 2014, he started his solo career with Danger and has been on the charts ever since. With the rest of the Shinee members fulfilling their military duties, he’s been great at keeping Shinee World satisfied with all of his activities. In the last months, he completed his 3rd Japanese tour and released his 3rd Japanese album Famous.
Baekhyun of Exo
Baekhyun, a member of Exo is known for his strong vocal abilities in the group. He is also apart of the subunit EXO-CBX, which includes members Chen and Xuimin(who is currently enlisted in the military). In July, Baekhyun debuted as a soloist with his album “City Lights”, reaching #1 on the Gagon charts and #4 on the American Billboard charts. His single Un Village received two music show wins despite him only promoting the single for a week.
Kai of Exo
Kai, an Exo member and is a rapper and vocalist in the group. He is most known for being the lead dancer. Being classically trained, he is always praised by other idols and the Korean public on his dancing ability and the passion that he puts in his work. Kai has been dubbed many times as The Dancing Machine of Kpop. He has been apart of many dramas and is a global ambassador for Gucci.
Taeyong of NCT
Debuting in 2016 under NCT- U, the NCT franchise has soared. Also being the leader of NCT 127, Tayeong just finished the group's 1st world tour that made stops in North America and even Russia.TY also released a solo song Long Flight, under SM Station. He’s is featured on two collaborations and worked with label mate U-Know of TVXQ on his debut album.
Mark of NCT
Also an NCT member, Mark is an all-around talent. With being the main rapper, sub vocalist and dancer, he literally can do it all. He is also an incredible asset to this team because he grew up in Canada and America so, he is able to help with the Western expansion. Mark also did a collaboration with Exo’s Xiumin. He is also a special case because this will be his official 4th debut in a group. Still being involved in NCT U and 127, he was in NCT Dream but finished his promotions in 2018 and graduated because of the age requirement.
Ten of Wayv
Ten is apart of NCT U and is currently affiliated with Wayv, the Chinese branch of NCT. He holds the positions of lead dancer and main rapper. He was also involved in the single “Baby Don’t Stop”, with his group mate Taeyong. The song later appeared on NCT group album “NCT 2018 Empathy”. As a Wayv member, he has been promoting their EP Take Off.
Lucas of Wayv
Also with his groupmate Ten. Lucas is in both NCT U and Wayv. He is the main rapper and sub dancer for both groups. Lucas is also involved a lot in Chinese media being a fixed cast member of Keep Running(Running Man) and has been a guest on Happy Camp. He has also modeled in many fashion shows.
Even a day after the release of the news, fans of each group still have many opinions about the debut. Some upset, demanding better treatments of each group separately. Others, being excited that all of the idols could work together to move Kpop even further.
